Breaking through the limits of standard retargeting

Alveolashop is a leading beauty and cosmetics ecommerce retailer in Hungary and part of Alveola, a beauty company with more than 25 years of industry experience. Known for its focus on quality and innovation, Alveola develops and manufactures its own cosmetics brands while also offering contract manufacturing and private-label solutions for businesses. With an established presence across Europe and ambitions to expand into new markets, the company continues to grow its beauty portfolio and reach new customers.

Heading into Q2, Alveolashop wanted to significantly grow digital revenue without simply increasing advertising spend. Until the end of March, the brand relied on a standard retargeting campaign that maintained a stable baseline but required relatively high spend and delivered an average ROAS of 1.39, close to its profitability threshold.

To move beyond this plateau, Alveolashop needed a more efficient way to reach new shoppers, re-engage existing customers, and drive revenue growth. The goal was to adopt a more comprehensive funnel strategy while reducing manual campaign management and improving return on ad spend.

Solution

Moving beyond retargeting with AI-powered Commerce Growth

In April, Alveolashop deactivated their legacy retargeting setup and migrated to GO Campaigns within Criteo’s Commerce Growth platform to adopt a more automated, AI-driven, cross-channel approach.

Instead of focusing solely onpast visitors, Criteo’s commerce AI immediately optimized Alveolashop’s campaigns through:

  • Predictive bidding based on real-time signals from the open web
  • Product recommendations using deeper, intent-rich behavior data
  • Prospecting and retention in a single, full-funnel strategy

With automated GO Campaigns, Alveolashop transitioned from a limited, single-funnel remarketing model to a highly efficient, full-funnel program that could:

  • Find new, high-potential customers
  • Re-engage past visitors and buyers at the right moments
  • Continuously allocate budget to the best-performing audiences and place

The transition to GO campaigns required no heavy redesign of strategy, but fundamentally upgraded the intelligence and automation behind how budgets were deployed.

Results

Growing revenue and ROAS while spending less

The migration from standard retargeting to AI-powered GO Campaigns delivered an immediate and dramatic impact, proving that AI-driven optimization can far outperform traditional retargeting setups.

  • +124.5% revenue uplift: Using GA4 data, Alveolashop saw total revenue in Q2 surge by 124.5% compared to Q1, following the April launch of GO Campaigns.
  • ROAS improvement from 1.39 to 4.25: Based on exact spend logs from the Criteo platform, average ROAS jumped from 1.39 in Q1 to 4.25 in Q2—a 205.7% increase in efficiency. April, the very first month on GO Campaigns, delivered a peak ROAS approaching 5.7.
  • 26.7% lower ad spend: Crucially, this surge in performance did not come from spending more. Overall ad spend actually decreased by 26.7%, as Criteo’s AI eliminated the digital waste inherent in the previous setup and focused investment where it truly drove outcomes.

For Alveolashop, the Q2 results highlighted the benefits of moving beyond standard retargeting strategy to an AI-powered, full-funnel approach. With GO Campaigns, the brand established a more efficient foundation for driving revenue growth while reducing advertising costs and manual campaign management.
